North Oak Ridge Baptist Church began when several people in the community wanted a church closer to home. The congregation was formed at Brown’s Schoolhouse, located a short distance from the church’s present location.

The church was originally known as Oak Ridge Baptist Church, a name inspired by the oak trees surrounding the area. Records show that “North” was added to the name sometime before 1939.

The congregation continued meeting at Brown’s Schoolhouse until a church building was constructed in August 1911. That building served the congregation for 28 years. The present sanctuary and original classrooms were completed in 1939.

In 1965, church attendance reached its historical peak. Rooms were added to the sides and rear of the building, and the church was bricked.

A parsonage was constructed in the early 1970s, and a fellowship building followed around 1980. An accessible foyer was added to the front of the church in 1998.

Additional land was given to the church in 2009. In 2011, 39 parking spaces, a new brick cemetery wall, and a fenced playground were added.

Expansion of the fellowship building began in the fall of 2016 and was completed in the spring of 2017. The building was dedicated on April 30, 2017, and the project was paid off in March 2023. The sanctuary was renovated in 2019, and the pews were reupholstered in 2023.

Missions have been part of North Oak Ridge’s ministry since the church began supporting David and Elwanda Fields in 1952. The church continues to support missionary and outreach work without tying that commitment to a published number.
